Technology is always evolving, constantly fronting new products and services. This is especially the case with personal gadgets like the mobile phone. If not new models of phones, then there are often new applications for them.
One new one that is causing quite a stir is SMS scheduling. With this service, one can queue an SMS for it to be sent out in future at a preset time. One specifies the date, time or the duration after which the SMS should go out. The SMS can be text only, text with Unicode, one with images such as OTA pictures, calendar entries, contact entries and it can also have WAP bookmark entries. A file attachment can also be sent if it normally supported. On the receiver's phone, the message will look as the usual one might receive that was not scheduled.
For busy people who could use a virtual assistant, SMS scheduling acts as just that. It helps them work ahead and not forget about appointments and even personally important days like birthdays of friends and family. One can for instance, take one slot of time and schedule SMS as far ahead as the whole year.
This feature also offers reminders of appointments made beforehand, be they personal ones like doctor's appointments or official ones like meetings at the office or with clients. One get set the reminder so that they get reminders 24 hours or before other period of time they specify before the appointment that was keyed in previously.
SMS scheduling also works very well for those who communicate across the border in different time zones. One can send a message ahead to be read by the other person at a specific time that is reasonable rather than calling them in the middle of the night or other inconvenient time.
You can also use SMS scheduling to help organize your finances. You can get reminders of payments you are supposed to make. If your bank supports mobile phone banking, you can also get SMS alerts every time money is deposited into your account.
To schedule an SMS, one chooses the precise date and time that one wants the SMS to go out. The other way to do this is by setting duration for the SMS after which it will go out. The second way works well for messages that are to go out after relatively short periods like a few minutes to a few hours.
The message that is to go out must first be drafted and then saved on the phone as a draft. To then schedule it, go to the SMS scheduling application and go to the view drafts option. Next, go to the schedule option and you will be asked to key in when the SMS should go out. Key in this information which will include the date and time you want the message to go out. When you are done, press OK and you get a confirmation message that the SMS has been scheduled. The message should then appear in the 'outbox'. It is possible to change the scheduled by going to the message and choosing the edit button. After the new scheduled time of sending is keyed in, a confirmation message will come through.
