Sending free SMS online has been possible since before 2000.
Obviously, in that time, many free text messaging services have come and gone. SMS sites like SMS.ac, once popular are now no more. And many free text messaging services just don't work that well, if at all.
So in this article (written in 2011) I want to highlight some of the best ways you can still send free web SMS today - some of the best, most reliable sites/services that provide free text messaging online.
Here goes...
* For Uganda, Africa - 7197.ug
This fairly new service lets you send free text messages to both MTN and UTL mobiles in Uganda, Africa. It's important that you have a mobile phone, though, as 7197.ug sends a confirmation to your cellphone first before you can get started.
7197.ug seems to work well.
* For UAE, Middle East - Rummble.com
This is actually a free worldwide SMS service, but it's quite unusual in that it allows you to send free SMS text messages to people living in UAE (United Arab Emirates).
In fact, it's not really a SMS gateway at all rather it's a site that allows you to send free txts to other Rummble members (though you can buy SMS credits so you can send SMS to non-Rummble members).
* For India - AtroChatro.com
Sending free SMS in India is very popular. And that's why there are many, many SMS text messaging sites and services that allow you to send free texts in India.
One of the free services that's been around the longest time, though, is AtroChatro.com. And they let you send your SMS texts to all the major mobile networks in India including Hutch, Airtel, Spice etc.
The main problem with this popular free SMS site, though, is that it only allows you to send 1 free text per day. Shame.
* For Australia - web2msg.com
This Australian free texting service does not require registration, which is always nice. You can only send 3 free SMS text messages per day, though, and sometimes the site allocation for free txts runs out.
Still, it looks like it's one of the more reliable free SMS sites for Australia.
* For United States - TextYourBuddy.com
Many of the free SMS services in America, USA, work by allowing you to send e-mail to SMS. And I believe that's how the popular TextYourBuddy.com works too. Which means you need to know the mobile phone network of the person you're texting. If you know this, then great, and get texting.
In fact, TextYourBuddy.com is another free txting service that lets you send free mobile SMS to other parts of the world, also.
* For United Kingdom - eSeMeS.co.uk
This is also a fairly new SMS service. It's free for UK only (you need to buy credits to send your online SMS to other parts of the world) but is easy to use and works fast!
Let's hope eSeMeS.co.uk sticks around because it's easily one of the best free txting sites out there right now!
* For Worldwide - SMScity.nl
And if none of the free web SMS listed so far are of use to you because you live in a country not listed so far, then SMScity.nl is the text messaging site for you.
And that's because it allows you to send free texts worldwide. You can only send a few free SMS per day, but it is possible to earn extra SMS credits.
So there you have it - a few of the best free text SMS services reviewed. So now if you want to "send text message from computer", so to speak, and save money whilst you do it you can!
