If you have been on the receiving end of an SMS in the middle of the night or when you are in an important meeting, then you will appreciate SMS scheduling. The fast moving world of technology is constantly bringing forth new developments. This is true for every sector and industry and also for personal use devices like cell phones. Every so often there is a new kind of cell phone or new features and functions that can be performed on existing models.
A new feature on cell phones that is being widely embraced is SMS scheduling. This service enables one to draft an SMS but program it to be sent at a later time rather than immediately. One keys the future date and time that one wants the message to go out or after which duration of time it should go out. The service allows for one to send text-only SMS, text and Unicode, text with graphics like calendar entries, OTA images, contact entries and WAP bookmark entries. If the service usually supports file attachments, these can be sent too. Once the message goes to the receiver at the deferred time, it will look like any other message with no indication that it had been drafted and scheduled to go out later.
SMS scheduling works very well for busy people on the go. It allows one to work ahead of time because it is possible to do a bulk of SMS at one time and schedule when every one is supposed to go out. It can be personal messages like birthday greetings to work-related ones where one can schedule reminders, confirmations and requests for meetings. One can do this as far ahead as a week, a month or even a year for personal messages.
One will often get messages such as from the doctor's office reminding them if their appointments a day before or confirmations for appointment requests.
Another group of people who benefit from SMS scheduling is those who send messages with people outside their own time zone. Rather than irritate someone with a late night message, it is possible to schedule the message to go out at a convenient time in the recipient's local time.
SMS can also be used to help one be organized with their finances. One can request to be sent reminders about payments one should make like for bills as well as repayments for loans. If one's bank supports mobile banking, one can also get alerts as money is credited and debited into the account.
Scheduling an SMS is simple. All one has to do is select the date and time they wish the SMS to go out or choose the duration of time after which the message should be sent. Setting a duration is ideal for messages that are meant to go out after short periods of time like a day or a few hours.
The way to do it is to write the message to be scheduled and then save it as a draft. To queue it for later sending, go to the view drafts option, then the schedule option. You will asked to enter the date and time the SMS should go out. When you key this in, choose OK and a confirmation message will come through after which the message goes to the Outbox. You can change the chosen date and time by going to the Outbox, choosing the message and then the edit option. When the new time is set, the confirmation will come through again.
